Dear Shivani members,

I am reaching out to you for two initiatives as outlined below. It could sprout tomorrow and grow, if a few like-minded Shivani residents would want to join me, or just die quickly with this mail. I wouldn’t be disappointed if the latter happens but will be very delighted to see many of you join.

FIRST : All of us by now very well know about the 'Swaach Barath' campaign started by our PM Mr.Modi to create a movement for cleaning our nation. Well, I am not here asking you to join me with a broom to clean our locality, but there is a way we can contribute to that without leaving our houses and spending no time, money or sweat. That is by way of reducing the garbage we eject out of our home. Not only that, but we can generate a small amount out of this effort and contribute to the education of a few destitute children. First we need to discuss, deliberate and learn more as to what needs to be done. Would need one ambassador per household, even a school-goer is right for this role.

SECOND : Most of us have less our just enough time get our regular life moving, let alone get together with neighbours or share some unique information, skill or knowledge we have gained over the years. For example, I might be able to share information on how to evaluate any household equipment that you want to buy or do some repairs yourselves; another from block-2 might be able to talk about an unique temple in the outskirts of Chennai; a third from Block-1 might be able to tell homemade medicines for regular medical conditions and a fourth might be able tell how she took lessons to a disabled child; even the school going children might have unique skills or information to demonstrate and share. To make this happen, we need create a regular gathering of like-minded people who can gather on a fixed day, at a fixed time of every week, no matter whether it rains or shines.

Are you ready ? If yes, we don’t have to look for an auspicious date; I can share the seed thoughts and plan on the REPUBLIC DAY at 10:00 AM in the 3rd block community hall. Even a handful of people can make a good beginning - others will definitely follow.

I shall gather and share the email responses I receive; Please respond by 12:00 noon on Sunday the 25th Jan. Requesting the Secretary to block and provide the community hall, for this gathering.

Its a real good effort. I have seen at times segregated items were dubbed back to the dust bins.  Hope its not coninuing now n earlier asked Supervisor also to look into it. kuppaithotti.com is coming regularly and collects all the wastes from our home and we could ask him to take our common segregated wastes. I request somebody has to monitor. In 2nd block I am not seeing the carton which were placed to collect wastes.
